Connection Canopy is designed as an interactive cannon that provides shading during the daytime and illumination at night in a previously unutilized green space within the University of Miami School of Architecture. Using a system of a steel post, washers and clear PVC plastic tubing filled with fiber optic illumination, a tree like structure is created. The benches that wrap around each element have haptic responses that will illuminate a single strand of the mesh that connects to an adjacent tree structure. The effect is increased illumination the more people are in the area as well as a visual connection between the people in the area, no matter how far apart they are. This tectonic system was resolved through mathematical parametric processes and considered the feasibility in real dimensions and materiality.
