Inspired by the kinetic motion of a fencer’s epee during a match, the Epee Academy is designed to engage both the competitors and the audience in the art of fencing. The main area is ascended via a processional ramp to the second floor. Here, the audience is enveloped by a large, airy, curvalinear space that wraps around the fencing strips which are viewed from large stepped stairs that serve as bleachers. Fencers make a formal entrance into the arena of combat by emerging from behind a paneled wall ascending a set of arching stairs from their first floor warm up area.
