VR for Design
Through on-going investigations of the use of virtual reality for design, we can uncover new ways of creating and presenting from the beginning to the end of the design process. Follow the research and observations at Lorena’s dedicated website:
Instinct to Digital Impact
A study integrating a series of standalone software to create a seamless workflow allowing for a designer to make adaptations in a Virtual environment that have impact on a digital BIM model in real-time.
Real Presentations in Virtual Rooms
Two-dimensional presentations become a spatialized experience with the design of an immersive virtual environment. Modular elements allow for limitless configurations of the space encouraging narrative-driven design of the presentation gallery.
Augmented Reality
AR-eye for design
The designer’s perspective on augmented / mixed / virtual reality technologies. A platform for interdisciplinary observations regarding the use of AR and VR for design
The Architecture of Augmented Reality
Technology is increasingly becoming embedded into the fabric of our cities and lives. From projections on facades, to LCD screens wrapping interiors, to smart technology directing the way we navigate the urban environment – our understanding of architecture is being transformed by technology’s capacity to augment our reality.
Augmented reality is a term used to define a perception of the real world whose elements are enhanced by the layering of information through computer-generated or extracted real-world sensory input such as sound, video, graphics or GPS data in real time. Augmented reality technology may be divided into three categories of integration: device-aided layered information (augmented tablet applications, Google Glass, Hololens, Mixed Reality Contacts); projection mapping (projection on 3D or flat surfaces) and integrated information systems into physical products (smart counters, tables and plasma screen walls). It is critical for architects to develop a dexterity with these technologies that are enhancing our ability to design three-dimensional space and enhance our cities to a different level of urban experience. I am researching the architecture of augmented reality. It is the architecture of the mind and the senses, a world built upon the idea that reality is the that which we perceive as real. This is design for a limitless world, one in which the exponential advancement of technology is sure to enable us to live in.
